A cycling parade will take place on "Tsarigradsko Shose" Blvd. this morning, the Sofia Municipality announced. Participants will gather at 9:30 a.m. at "Narodno Sabranie" Sq., with the official start scheduled for 10:00 a.m. The procession will move along "Tsarigradsko Shose" Blvd. to "Kopenhagen" Blvd., before turning back toward "Narodno Sabranie" Sq. Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev is expected to lead the parade.
For approximately two hours, "Tsarigradsko Shose" Blvd. will be closed to car traffic. The Sofia Municipality has invited citizens to bring their bicycles and join the event. The initiative is dedicated to European Mobility Week and will pass through parts of the route used for the historic finish of the Bulgarian stage of the Giro d'Italia. The event is being organized with the assistance of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark and the Center for Urban Mobility. This past May, Sofia hosted the finish of the third stage of the prestigious international Giro d'Italia race.
"For us, the bicycle is not just an excuse for a parade – we are working toward a comprehensive and connected cycling network that will make cycling a real alternative for urban transportation," stated Mayor Vasil Terziev, as quoted by the Sofia Municipality press center. He emphasized that the primary goal is to build over 20 km of new cycling infrastructure, covering not only streets but also park zones and shared spaces, while ensuring connections between existing bike paths.
