Maria Terziyska, who is running for the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), wants the council to update its rules on the status of court staff and on court records. She says this should be a priority for the council's next term.
Terziyska is a judge and deputy chair of the Regional Court in Varna. She also proposes changing the ethics rules for Bulgarian magistrates, because more and more people are saying in public that the professional integrity of some judges and prosecutors should be checked.
The SJC can work well if it has a clear idea of its role and purpose, and if judges take an active part, the candidate says. She wants to use her experience to help with this.
"As a judge, I always try to apply the law correctly and fairly and to follow the ethical principles for magistrates," Terziyska said. She says there can be no good justice without professional integrity, because it is a necessary part of it.
