Vanya Stefanova, acting prosecutor general, has asked the 52nd National Assembly to lift the immunity of MP B.B., a deputy chair of a parliamentary group. She wants the case against him for misconduct in office to continue at the Sofia City Court, the prosecutor's office said.
Stefanova sent the request to the parliament's registry on the proposal of a prosecutor from the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office.
The prosecutor's office says the case, already opened at the Sofia City Court, can only continue if the National Assembly agrees or the MP consents in writing.
An indictment against B.B. was filed on 1 October 2025. On 24 April this year the Central Election Commission declared him an MP, and on 28 April the Sofia City Court sent the case back to the city prosecutor's office.
Prosecutors appealed, and on 22 June the Sofia Appellate Court returned the case to the Sofia City Court to continue. But B.B. took his oath on 30 April and has had immunity since then, so on 1 September this year the Sofia City Court suspended the proceedings with a ruling.
In a separate case, Bozhidar Bozhanov, co-chair of "Yes, Bulgaria" and an MP from "Democratic Bulgaria", has also been indicted. The Sofia City Court handed him the indictment on 27 March 2025.
The indictment says Bozhanov breached his duties as a public official. He was minister of e-government and the contracting authority for a public procurement. He broke the Law on the Protection of Classified Information and the ministry's internal rules on awarding public procurements. The breaches date from between 20 May and 17 June 2022.
