Todor Deyanov, deputy head of the Appeals Prosecutor's Office in Plovdiv, is running for a seat on the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) in the prosecutors' quota.

In his statement of motives, he calls the SJC vote the last challenge of his career as a magistrate. Deyanov says the storm in the judicial system will not pass, and the outcome depends on the magistrates themselves.

He has about four years left until retirement. If elected, he says, he would not think about what happens to him after his term ends.

"I have never betrayed my colleagues, and above all myself. I have never given in to pressure or to attempts to influence my work," Deyanov says.

The SJC plenum and both of its panels must ensure and defend the independence of the judiciary as a whole and of each magistrate, the candidate says. He says the council cannot do its job without the input of every magistrate.

Deyanov says pay for junior prosecutors and for experienced ones differs too much to be normal, and the gap should be narrowed.

He also writes that the future of the judicial system lies in digitising justice. He lists faster trials, lower costs and other gains as benefits of e-justice.
