The government and the relevant parliamentary committees will receive proposals to change the law on foster care, the regional administration in Haskovo said. The ideas were collected at a working meeting called by regional governor Todor Ivanov.
MPs Nadezhda Koleva and Vladimir Gonchev took part, along with foster parents and representatives of social services, municipalities and other institutions and organisations.
Opening the meeting, Ivanov said the aim was to raise specific problems from everyday practice and discuss changes in the law that would make the service easier to provide.
Participants described the difficulties in their daily work and suggested how to solve them. They spoke about stable funding and about making foster care an activity delegated by the state.
They also discussed tightening the requirements for foster families, including the age of foster parents. They looked at changes in labour law, health care and the education of children in foster families, as well as the address registration of these children.
Koleva and Gonchev promised to pass the issues on to the relevant institutions and said they would help.
Before the meeting, the BTA National Press Club held a discussion that raised questions about weaknesses in the law on foster care. Ivanov was among the guests.
The discussion is part of the joint "Adopt Me" initiative of BTA and the Social Assistance Agency.
