The government has approved a draft memorandum of understanding with Starbase Europe Ltd that provides for a €100m investment at Dobroslavtsi, its press office said. The money is for an industrial park and a development centre at the former military base and airfield.
The site is called "High-Tech Industrial Park and Space and Defence Development Centre – Dobroslavtsi". It will also have a high-tech complex of national and European importance.
The money will go to space technology, dual-use technology, high-tech manufacturing, engineering and industrial services with high added value. The park is to have room for factories, technology firms and research and development. It will also have specialised infrastructure for the high-tech industries.
In the same decision, the cabinet set up an inter-agency working group. It will help the institutions carry out the project.
Prime minister Rumen Radev, who visited Dobroslavtsi airfield in August, said construction would start on a national centre to monitor, coordinate and manage activity using data from space. He has talked about such a centre since 2020. The aim is for the state to be able to run important processes in various public and economic areas.
