Harmanli municipality has launched a contest for school pupils' mini-projects titled "What would I do for my school if I were mayor". Pupils from all schools in the municipality can take part, the administration said on its official website.
The municipality will fund three projects, one in each age group: grades 1–4, 5–7 and 8–12. The winner in each group will get up to €1,000 to carry out their idea.
Each school can enter no more than one project per age group.
The contest is held for Bulgarian Municipality and Local Government Day on 12 October. The organisers want young people to come up with ideas for a better school environment. They also hope the contest will encourage their civic activity, enterprise and leadership skills.
Mayor Maria Kirkova thanked the people whose work helps the municipality grow. She believes local government works to make the area a better place to live and to secure the future of young people.
The Annual Meeting of Local Authorities, which also marks the holiday, takes place today at the Albena resort complex. A panel there is discussing education, the quality of municipal investment and the switch to a new model for setting the household waste fee.
