Parliament speaker Mihaela Dotsova has urged students not to doubt Bulgaria's European course and not to listen to those who say it has another direction. She spoke at the Youth Economic Forum 2026 at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) in Sofia.
"We must never doubt our European orientation," Dotsova said. She said a European and strong Bulgaria means respecting the rule of law.
The forum's theme is "A modern state, a competitive economy and more opportunities for young people". The UNWE Student Council and the National Representation of Student Councils are organising it.
Dotsova thanked the students for choosing to study in Bulgaria. She said a dividing line is easiest to draw when a person doubts their own convictions, and it can run across different subjects and directions. Someone who is sure they are on the right path would not let another person push them in a different direction.
The best investment is knowledge, she said, because it gives independence and the confidence that everything depends on the students themselves and their will.
"I am convinced that the next speakers of parliament, prime ministers, ministers and mayors are sitting in this hall," Dotsova said. The reason, she said, is "the fire in the eyes of the people who are here".
