Bulgaria's Road Infrastructure Agency is planning repairs on 65.2 km of the third-class road III-801, which runs from Vakarel through Belitsa, Poibrene and Oborishte to Panagyurishte, the agency says. The route is part of its investment program and is split into two sections.
The first stretch, about 25 km long, runs between Vakarel and Belitsa in the Sofia region. The second, about 40 km long, starts at Belitsa and reaches Strelcha, in the Pazardzhik region.
Before the actual repair work starts, crews are already carrying out basic safety work on the road — patching the surface by machine, trimming roadside plants, leveling the shoulders and clearing drainage ditches.
For the section in the Sofia region, work on finishing the technical repair project is now underway. The paperwork has already passed a technical review at the regional road office in Sofia, and the designer is now fixing the issues raised. Only once the project is finished will it be clear exactly what construction work needs to be done, how much it will cost and how long it will take.
For the 40 km in the Pazardzhik region, a technical project for a major repair has already been approved. What's left is to get permission from the river basin authority to use a water source. The agency says a full set of approved plans is a required step before construction can begin.
The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) notes that repair work on the joints of two structures along the Maritsa motorway in the Haskovo region started last week.
