Inspectors in Haskovo found 527 breaches of labour law after 100 checks in August, according to the Labour Inspectorate's local office. They carried out 37 checks in the city itself and another 63 in towns and villages across the region. Twelve of the checks followed complaints from members of the public.
Most of the breaches, 300, involved health and safety at work. Another 224 concerned employment rights, and three fell under rules on labour migration and labour mobility.
Inspectors issued 501 orders telling employers to fix problems and drew up 33 reports on administrative offences. The inspectorate says that whenever it finds a breach, it orders the employer to fix it, improve working conditions and prevent accidents at work.
Inspectors also issued 15 permits for employing minors in August, down from 31 in the same month last year.
At the end of August, inspectors looked into a report of an accident involving a worker at a quarry near the village of Klokotnitsa, near Haskovo. It is the most recent fatal workplace accident the inspectorate has dealt with.
