Bulgaria's main reservoirs were 64.81% full on 13 October 2026, the highest level for this time of year in eight years, the Ministry of Environment and Water says.
They hold 4,236.1m cubic metres of water, more than 12% above mid-October 2025. The ministry manages 52 major and multi-purpose reservoirs.
By use, the water available is 79.06% for drinking and household supply, 69.77% for energy, 49.46% for irrigation and 47.14% for reserve drinking and household supply.
Rain is expected today and overnight into 14 October, and rivers will rise. The ministry says water levels will stay below warning thresholds.
On the afternoons of 14 and 15 October, river levels will mostly fall, though runoff may push them up in some places. New rises are expected in the Danube basin from the evening of 15 October and overnight into 16 October. On 16 October levels will also climb in the East Aegean basin and in places in the mountain areas of the West Aegean basin.
The ministry called on local authorities to apply the steps in the Flood Risk Management Plans for 2022-2027 and to follow the latest hydrometeorological information and forecasts of dangerous weather.
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology issued a level one yellow warning for 14 October in 14 regions, mainly in the eastern half of the country. Tomorrow rain will last longer in the Rhodope Mountains and southeast Bulgaria, while in other areas it will ease and stop. Later in the day, cloud over western areas will break up.
A moderate wind will blow from the north-northeast in many places, and it will be strong in the east.
