Transport minister Georgi Peev said at a briefing in Burgas that the ministry will use the Burgas model for road safety training grounds in other cities. The ministry plans at least 6 such sites in Bulgaria.
"We will use the model that Burgas is proposing. We will review it and may roll it out nationwide," Peev said.
He said the Burgas idea is a good one. At the training grounds, young drivers will practise their skills and learn to behave more safely on the road.
"We see the war on the roads continuing, to my great regret, so we will do everything possible to improve this," the minister added.
The project is ready. Burgas mayor Dimitar Nikolov is behind the idea of a road safety training ground in the city. Burgas council announced a Regional Road Safety Centre at the start of the year. Its partners in the project are the council, the council-owned company Burgasbus and the state-owned company ESO Charge.
At the centre, children and schoolchildren will learn the rules of the road, and drivers will get practical training.
The training base will have interactive classrooms, lecture halls and an area built to resemble a real city. There will also be a training ground where drivers can simulate dangerous road situations and improve their skills.
