Stambolovo municipality is repairing 10 streets in eight villages with €996,660 in grant funding, mayor Adnan Yildiz and Stefka Latunova, director of the humanitarian activities and investment policy directorate, told BTA.
The work covers Stambolovo, Voyvodenets, Rabovo, Dolno Pole, Lyaskovets, Golyam Izvor, Tsareva Polyana and Zhalti Bryag. Rabovo and Zhalti Bryag each have two sections being repaired, while the other villages have one street each. The streets total 2,715 metres.
They are getting new asphalt concrete surfaces, and the kerbs are being replaced. Work has finished at five of the sites. Latunova says the pace is fast and she expects everything to be done before the end of September 2028, the project deadline.
The money comes from the Strategic Plan for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Areas for 2023-2027 and is paid through the State Fund Agriculture. Yildiz said the repairs improve infrastructure and living conditions in the municipal centre and the villages.
Two weeks earlier, Stambolovo was named one of 20 winners of the New European Bauhaus initiative, which promotes small municipalities. The European Commission is giving €30,000 to the project "The Green Heart of Stambolovo".
The money will pay for greenery on the renovated pavement areas along the main street in Stambolovo. Local plant species that can survive drought will be planted. Residents of the municipality, including pupils from the local high school, take part in the social side of the project.
