Prosecutors are voting today to choose four members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) from the professional quota, the council said. There are 25 candidates and 1,567 prosecutors can vote.
Voting is on paper ballots from 8am to 6pm. There are 29 polling stations, matching the number and location of the regional courts. Sofia has three.
Counting starts after 6pm. Each station opens its ballot box, counts the ballots, decides which are valid and draws up a record, which its chair and members sign. A scanned copy goes to the election commission's email address as soon as the record is signed, and no later than 9pm.
The commission chair rules on whether the vote was properly held. The chair then announces the result for each candidate and the names of the elected SJC members by 11pm.
For the first time, stations will count ballots in front of cameras, and the footage will be streamed live on the SJC website. If local video recording stops, the count halts until it resumes. The pause cannot last longer than 30 minutes.
BTA will show live how the count works, how ballots are checked for validity and how the record is drawn up. The agency is also covering the elections of SJC members from the National Assembly quota, and of judges and investigators.
At the prosecutors' general assembly on 17 October, the candidates presented their plans and answered questions from colleagues.
Judges will hold their general assembly on 31 October and vote on 7 November. Investigators meet on 14 November and vote on 21 November.
