Police and prosecutors broke up 52 drug labs and grow sites in August 2026 — 15 more than in July, when they found 37. The figures come from the special joint unit of the prosecution and the interior ministry that investigates drug crimes and illegal migration, the prosecutor's office said.
Investigators opened 891 criminal cases last month over producing, processing, buying, holding and selling drugs, up from 827 in July. Police detained 852 people in these cases.
The number of human trafficking cases at the border is also rising. In August, police detained 101 people for smuggling migrants across the border. They are also charged with helping foreigners enter or stay in the country illegally. In July, 67 people were detained on the same charges. Prosecutors opened 42 criminal cases over these crimes, up from 14 the month before.
Police recently found a lab making synthetic drugs during a raid in the village of Yunatsite, in Pazardzhik province.
