Delyan Peevski, leader of the DPS party, has asked prosecutors to look into statements by interior minister Ivan Demerdzhiev, who links paid flights to threats against schools, kindergartens and other public buildings, the DPS press office said.
This story follows our earlier report of 18 September on Peevski's plan to ask prosecutors to act over Demerdzhiev's accusations.
In the statement, Peevski calls the minister's claim, made in several public remarks, baseless, absurd and even comic. He says Demerdzhiev is trying to prove a link that does not exist between a Bulgarian company and the payment for his flights, and to tie it to the series of threats. Peevski says he and his family paid for the flights, as he has said many times.
Peevski says the minister has crossed a line and is "playing" with people's fears and worries. Instead of putting their safety and peace of mind first, he used his post, Peevski says.
Demerdzhiev himself filed a complaint with the National Revenue Agency (NRA) so that the claims that Peevski's flights were paid for with family funds can be checked. He told parliament about the complaint last week.
The Chief Directorate for Combating Organised Crime has asked Hyperion Aviation for documents. According to Demerdzhiev, they show no payments received personally by Peevski for flights between 1 January 2023 and 15 June 2026.
