Parliament has passed, at second reading, changes to the Insurance Code that guarantee one-month, three-month and six-month insurance for motorcycles, caravans, campers and self-propelled machines. Petar Petrov, deputy chair of the Vazrazhdane parliamentary group, told journalists in the parliament corridors. See our original report: Bulgarian MPs pass changes to insurance code at second reading.
Vazrazhdane proposed the amendment, and MPs passed it today in the plenary hall. It requires insurers to offer policies with such terms.
This summer, motorcycle owners protested and asked for insurance of less than one year. Petrov says the changes will counter the continuing impoverishment of the population and respond to ever higher insurance prices.
He believes this will cut the losses that the Guarantee Fund and all citizens pay for compensation when there is no third-party liability insurance. He also says the changes meet the expectations of a large part of society, which wants to pay less.
Last year Vazrazhdane added to the Foreigners Act the option of three-month health insurance for foreigners. Petrov says the aim is that foreigners do not "lie" on the Bulgarian health system and emergency care.
The legal affairs committee will consider today, at second reading, changes to the Criminal Code proposed by the government. Petrov will vote against, because in his view they criminalise every activity of the Russian Federation.
Vazrazhdane is a pro-Russian party. Russia has been waging a full-scale war against Ukraine since February 2022, and the EU and Bulgaria support Ukraine.
