Ivan Mihaylov, chief executive of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, met justice minister Nikolay Naydenov, the ministry's press office said.
They discussed the rule of law, the investment climate, the fight against corruption and working together on changes to the law. Deputy minister Irena Borisova and Daniel Kiryakov, the Chamber's communications and institutional relations manager, also took part.
They talked about whether experts from the Chamber's Rule of Law and Legislative Reform Committee could join the ministry's working groups when it drafts changes to the law, including the Commercial Act. This is only a possibility for now, with no dates set.
"A good business climate rests on the rule of law and its effective enforcement," Naydenov said. He said reports of corrupt practices must be investigated to the end, even when international companies take part in public tenders.
The new anti-corruption commission will improve the investment climate and strengthen trust in institutions, the minister said. He urged the Chamber's representatives to tell the authorities if they have evidence of irregularities.
Alexander Pulev, deputy prime minister and minister of economy, investment and industry, said trust and dialogue with American business must deepen. He spoke at a business breakfast on 21 September, organised by the Chamber with the prime minister and government representatives. Pulev said companies should have the conditions to expand their presence in Bulgaria.
