The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology, INSAIT, will unveil its 15 new EXPLORER scholars at a ceremony at the Council of Ministers, the government's press office said. The event starts at 10:00 am.
This year's group is bigger than the scholars from the first two rounds of the programme put together. This is the third round of EXPLORER, and last year's scholars were also announced at an official ceremony at the Council of Ministers.
Through EXPLORER, INSAIT aims to keep talented Bulgarian students in maths, computer science, artificial intelligence and natural sciences in Bulgaria, so they can study and build their careers here at a world-class level. The scholars study at Sofia University's Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, while also doing research at INSAIT and interning at leading tech companies.
Each student picked gets a monthly stipend of just over 1,000 euros. Tech companies fund the programme.
The ceremony will be attended by prime minister Rumen Radev, education minister professor Georgi Valchev, Sofia University rector professor Eliza Stefanova and the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, professor Maya Stoyanova. INSAIT will be represented by its founder and scientific director professor Martin Vechev and executive director engineer Borislav Petrov.
