GERB is collecting signatures to call an emergency session of parliament and to force the resignation of National Assembly speaker Mihaela Dotsova, the party said on Facebook. So far it has 39 of the 80 it needs.

On Thursday, Dotsova's deputy Atanas Atanasov also asked her on Facebook to resign, after an incident with a journalist.

How the story began: Atanasov calls for Dotsova to resign after incident with journalist

GERB called on all opposition groups to sign both requests. The party says guards from the National Protection Service (NSO) were rough with a female journalist and that Dotsova left the scene. GERB says such behaviour is unacceptable and does not fit the institution she represents.

"After yesterday, the speaker of the National Assembly cannot claim respect for the institution and represent it," the party wrote.

The NSO said last night it will look into the case involving one of its officers, who was guarding Dotsova, and the journalist.
