The Market Price Index (MPI) has risen to 2,281 points, representing a 1.11% increase compared to the previous week. According to the latest data from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Markets (SCCEM), this movement reflects a general increase in wholesale food prices across the country, with most vegetables showing an upward trend. The base level of the index was set at 1,000 points in 2005.
Cucumbers are leading the price increases among vegetables, with prices jumping by 23.59% to reach 1.48 euro per kilogram. Increases were also noted in potatoes (up 7.96% to 0.61 euro per kilogram), zucchini (up 5.44% to 0.92 euro per kilogram), and tomatoes (up 4.76% to 1.32 euro per kilogram). A similar dynamic is observed in peppers – green peppers are 3.63% more expensive (1 euro per kilogram), while red peppers are up 2.99% (1.12 euro per kilogram). The smallest changes were recorded for carrots, which rose by 0.37% to 0.68 euro per kilogram, and cabbage, which is 0.47% more expensive (0.54 euro per kilogram).
The only products in the vegetable category to report a decline are lettuce (5.7% lower, at 0.62 euro per kilogram) and mature onions (3.51% cheaper, at 0.55 euro per kilogram). The situation is different for fruit: only peaches saw an increase of 18.52%, selling at 1.28 euro per kilogram. Meanwhile, grapes saw the sharpest decline, with their value falling by 12.33% to 1.28 euro per kilogram. Decreases were also observed in apples (down 5.54% to 0.98 euro per kilogram) and lemons (down 4.43% to 1.67 euro per kilogram).
In dairy products, "Vitosha" type yellow cheese increased by 0.62% to 9.36 euro per kilogram, while cow milk cheese rose by 0.08% to 6.08 euro per kilogram. Cow butter (125g pack) is trading at 1.46 euro per unit, an increase of 0.17%. An opposite trend is seen in dairy drinks: the price of yogurt (3% and over 3% fat) fell by 2.37% to 0.72 euro per 400g tub, and fresh milk is 0.64% cheaper at 1.16 euro per liter.
Changes in wholesale food prices will be reflected in the cost of essential products for households in Burgas and the region.
Regarding other food commodities, the following price movements were recorded:
- Frozen chicken meat decreased by 0.62% to 3.61 euro per kilogram, while eggs (size M) remained unchanged at 0.19 euro per unit wholesale.
- Rice rose by 1.52% to 1.67 euro per kilogram, mature beans by 2.66% to 2.12 euro per kilogram, and lentils by 0.87% to 2.04 euro per kilogram.
- Sugar increased by 8.88% to 0.95 euro per kilogram, type 500 flour is 7.58% more expensive (0.71 euro per kilogram), and oil is up 5.63% to 1.83 euro per liter.
