Bulgaria's central bank said its governing council has approved the merger of Tokuda Bank into Bulgarian-American Credit Bank (BACB).
Tokuda Bank will be closed without liquidation, and BACB will take over all its rights and obligations as its legal successor.
The merger is the next step after BACB bought Tokuda Bank from Japan's Tokushukai Incorporated. The Commission for Protection of Competition allowed BACB to take direct control of Tokuda Bank in July 2024. The deal had been announced three months earlier, in April.
In December 2025, on the instruction of the European Central Bank, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) gave BACB prior approval to buy a direct qualifying stake in Tokuda Bank. The deal was completed in January this year.
The purchase "is a good move for the Bulgarian economy as a whole, because there must be truly strong, transparent Bulgarian banks that operate in Bulgaria, and this is our latest step in establishing ourselves as one", Tsvetelina Borislavova told BTA at the end of last year.
