The government has ordered Bulgarian Posts to keep paying pensions through post offices across Bulgaria until 30 June 2031, the government press office said. The rules and terms of payment do not change.
Pensioners can collect their pensions and supplements at any post office, not only the one that serves them. People on a permanent disability pension and those aged 68 and over can have them delivered at home, at their permanent or current address.
The company also pays pensions and pension payments to prisoners and to people living in social care homes. It makes extra payments to those entitled to them.
Under the decision, the annual cap on state aid for this service rises to €20m. The cabinet also set up a way to cover the company's costs for providing the public service.
Earlier the same day, prime minister Rumen Radev said the 2027 budget provides for pensions to rise by 8%. Public sector wages go up by 5%, and pay for teachers rises by 7.5%.
